We are currently making a mobile animation for the diet, slimming and health site mobislim.com
We’re thinking of a simple animated gif which flips between alcohol calories and calories burned by exercise. We have noticed a big uptake in the number of registrations for mobislim - and hope that this animation will help peope be more heatlthy by
- losing weight
- eating healthier
- exercising more
Here is the link to the slimming site

Our test to see if adding the asset type to the end of each asset link would help google understand that we didn’t just have ringtones we also had ringtone… worked! We now rank equally well for ringtone as ringtones and we are top slot for both! Note we also added the singular and plural of the asset type into the meta description and where we could, into the page title.

Have just checked google mobile search and we are page 1 for “spurs mobile animations”. We are slot 3 for the web search and slot 7 for the mobile search. I am very relieved because I was beggining to thing that we would never get there. It has taken approximately 5 days. I wonder if we can better this in the coming weeks.
I noticed that spurs ringtones is working also now, but also noticed something very interesting for the tommy huddlestone ringtones. We are ranking for “tommy huddlestone ringtones” but not “tommy huddlestone ringtone”. This is a bit annoying. So I’m going to add the word “ringtone” to the end of each buy link to see if that helps. I will also add the word “ringtone” to the meta data.

We’ve just created a mobile page which showcases our spurs animations here: http://mob.animationfc.mobi/a/spurs/spurs-animations.jsp This is so that we can try and rank for “spurs animations” on mobile searches. The interesting this is that we appear for non mobile searches but do not appear anywhere for the mobile searches. This seems very strange!
We also created a new category which we were not ranking for either, which was “chants”. Therefore there is now a special page, linked to from the main index page. The url is http://mob.animationfc.mobi/a/spurs/spurs-chants-ringtones.jsp

I’ve had a look at our Animation FC - wallpapers, ringtones and animations mobile internet site for Spurs and although its has a google mobile site map for over a year… the content on the site is not ranking too well. I had previously submited the content with the word “ringtone” “animation” or “wallpaper” but this got changed as the same field was used for the website in the cms. I am thus going to add a new field, used for mobile… which will hopefully help for searches for “spurs ringtones” etc. I might also make some experiments with H1 tags. I might even sit the site on a new URL - the current url is mob.animationfc.mobi/a/spurs

My friend Maria is researching mobile analytics and she’s got a blog running on mobislim.wordpress.com - so far it seems that we are at the early stages of mobile analytics. There are several companies aiming to be the best mobile analytics provider - but Bango seems to be the front runner at the moment. Actually this field is so new - I don’t even think there is a recognised award for mobile analytics yet. Since we are currently working at building up traffic for the generic wallpapers, ringtones and screensavers site - mobifunzone we too need to be giving serious thought as to how to track our campaigns. I think it’s time for us to integrate with Bango Analytics and see what interesting things we can find!

We have recently started using an excellent server monitoring service - BasicState.com
It’s a free service and they ping our boxes every 15 minutes. The cool thing is that not only do we get email alerts when we have an issue, but there is also an SMS alert sent out to our phones too.
Slightly worryingly, the chaps @ basic state, who are over in the USA, sometimes have problems seeing our servers, which are all hosted via fasthosts.co.uk. We are currently investigating why this is so.

One of the biggest requests we have is for animated screensavers for the LG Shine and the LG Chocolate. These phones, whilst sophisticated in all other respects, seem to have a very small maximum size for animated screensavers. The limit is around 100k. This is pathetic since most other phones will hapilly accept animations 4 times as large. The good news is that these phones can display animations as animations (as opposed to the phones which don’t let the animations play, or only let the first screen of the animations play - such as apple iphone).
We are therefore currently undergoing a prototyping of some new - lower quality animations for these phones and will customize our delivery method to only use these smaller sized animations when we detect that the requesting device is one of these damned LG’s.
Will publish an animation for one of these phones as soon as it comes out of the design department.

We recently received communication from O2 that they did not like the fact that the Pay For It screens on our sites were different. We knew that this was not correct, since we use Bango for our Billing, and their Pay For It screens are all the same.
However we discovered that because we link to another partners sites from our football sites, (made by Trust5), it is the Trust5 sites who have the wrong PFI screen. Actually, the PFI screen is not even wrong, its just the old version of PFI, and Bango use the latest PFI screen. (Pay For It 2 has some really cool functionality). What O2 object to is that a user could buy 1 bit of content from our site and see 1 pay for it page, and then go via a link to another site, and see a (very slightly) different pay for it page, and this might seriously confuse that user!
Trust 5 use IPX as their billing provider, and aparently they are going to upgrade to PFI 2 soon, so hopefully this will chill O2 out, so they don’t take away our right to use PFI !
Eitherway, it seems like O2 are getting serious about Pay For It! The problem is, people like to link to other peoples sites, indeed the world of mobile advertising kind of depends on this. With policies such as this, it will mean that you can only advertise on a site, or link to a site, if both parties have a billing provider who are running with the same version of Pay For It!
That will be fun!
